Clinic Profile

The Cardiometabolic Clinic of the Nicosia General Hospital is a model clinic for the holistic management of patients with multiple cardiovascular comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity. It operates as part of the Diabetes Center of Nicosia General Hospital.

As modern medicine now recognizes CKM (Cardio-Kidney-Metabolic) syndrome as a distinct clinical entity, a holistic approach to patients with cardio-renal-metabolic syndrome has become essential.
Our goal is to provide personalized care for patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors, based on best medical practices and clinical guidelines.

The clinic offers services for the management of patients with:

Dyslipidemia: (non-familial or familial hypercholesterolemia, non-familial or familial hypertriglyceridemia, or combined hyperlipidemia).
The clinic is a research member of the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) FHSC (Familial Hypercholesterolemia Study Collaboration). Patients with suspected or confirmed familial hypercholesterolemia are recorded, and genetic testing for the condition is available in collaboration with the Biobank of the University of Cyprus.

Hypertension: Investigation and management of secondary hypertension, as well as treatment of resistant hypertension and gestational hypertension.
The clinic also provides Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (BP Holter) services for:

  1. Diagnosis of “white coat” or masked hypertension
  2. Evaluation of adequate blood pressure control
  3. Diagnosis of dipping status
  4. Diagnosis of pseudo-resistant hypertension
  5. Diagnosis of isolated systolic or diastolic hypertension
  6. Diagnosis of episodic hypotension

Diabetes: As part of the Diabetes Center of Nicosia General Hospital, the clinic provides care for patients with prediabetestype 1 diabetes (on insulin therapy or insulin pump), type 2 diabetesother forms of diabetes, and diabetic foot. (See the Diabetes Center page for more information.)

Obesity: Investigation of secondary causes of obesity and holistic management through nutritional, pharmacological, or bariatric interventions. Patient care is supported by a multidisciplinary team, including a Clinical Dietitian, Orthopedic Surgeon, Pulmonologist, Cardiologist, General Surgeon, and Plastic Surgeon.

The Cardiometabolic Clinic of Nicosia General Hospital, committed to providing high-quality medical care, is in the process of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 15224:2016 certification, and also provides training to Internal Medicine residents and medical students from the University of Cyprus.
