It also collaborates with specialized ophthalmologists and is supported by experienced and highly qualified nursing staff, ensuring a high standard of care for patients.
Its facilities include a seven-bed ophthalmology ward, which is the only specialized inpatient ophthalmology ward in Cyprus. In addition, it has two modern operating theatres equipped with state-of-the-art technology, operating five days a week, as well as fully organized outpatient clinics. The clinic’s equipment includes advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tools, ensuring precision and effectiveness in the services provided.
Clinical Departments and Surgical Services
The clinic offers a wide range of services, covering both primary care and specialized surgical procedures. In the outpatient clinics, full ophthalmological examinations are carried out by appointment, along with the assessment of emergency cases.
Cataract Surgery
Cataract operations are performed daily using modern phacoemulsification techniques, with excellent postoperative outcomes.
Vitreoretinal Unit
The unit provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic assessment of the posterior segment using modern imaging methods. Diseases of the macula, such as age-related degeneration and diabetic maculopathy, are treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF injections and other intravitreal therapies. At the same time, scheduled vitreous surgery is performed for the treatment of vitreous and retinal disorders.
Emergency Ophthalmology – Ocular Trauma
The clinic manages both simple and complex ocular trauma, as well as eyelid injuries, on a continuous emergency basis, providing comprehensive evaluation and immediate surgical or conservative treatment depending on the severity of each case. The management of emergency cases covers the full spectrum of eye injuries, with the aim of achieving the best possible restoration of visual function and anatomical integrity.
Cornea and Ocular Surface Unit
There is specialized expertise in corneal and ocular surface diseases, with emphasis on the diagnosis and management of complex cases. The clinic serves as an organized center for the collection, storage, and transplantation of amniotic membrane, applying modern therapeutic approaches for the restoration of the ocular surface.
Pediatric Ophthalmology
Special emphasis is placed on pediatric ophthalmology, with a dedicated department for the diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions in children. This includes, among other things, screening and treatment of retinopathy of prematurity, as well as orthoptic assessment and surgical management of strabismus.
Training of Resident Doctors and Medical Students
The clinic develops a rich educational program at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, tailored to the demands of modern ophthalmology. The program is intended for students of the Medical School of the University of Cyprus and the European University Cyprus, as well as for resident and specialist ophthalmologists of the hospital.
As a clinic with a long history and significant contribution to the training of new ophthalmologists, it has trained a large number of residents, many of whom are now practicing as private ophthalmologists in Cyprus and Greece. Through lectures and seminars with the participation of specialists, it contributes to continuous education and the advancement of knowledge in the field of ophthalmology.
Research Work
The Ophthalmology Clinic develops notable research activity, actively contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of ophthalmology. The medical staff participates in clinical studies, while the results are presented at local and international conferences and published in scientific journals.
At the same time, the clinic collaborates with academic institutions and research bodies, strengthening the link between clinical practice and scientific research. Through this activity, modern and innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches are promoted, with the goal of continuously improving the quality of patient care.
