The Department of Nuclear Medicine has operated since 2006 and is located on the 1st floor of Limassol General Hospital. Since the mid of 2021, it has a new and modern SPECT/CT system and offers the following services:
Performance of scintigraphy for various conditions such as heart, bone, kidneys, lungs and thyroid/parathyroid scans, inflammation detection, sentinel lymph node mapping, radioisotopic cystography, neuroendocrine tumours, basic glands, and others, with the possibility of simultaneous axial tomography where necessary.
Therapies with radiopharmaceuticals for outpatients, such as the administration of radioactive iodine 131 with an activity of up to 30mCi for the treatment of thyroid cancer or hyperthyroidism.
Monitoring of patients with a history of thyroid cancer. The department is currently staffed by a Nuclear Medicine Doctor, Dr. Diogenes Kyprianou, who also serves as the department head, three Nuclear Medicine Medical Officers/Technologists, one Nursing Officer, and administrative support.
