The Limassol General Hospital operates a 24-hour Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) with an organisational structure comprising 18 beds, a minor operating room, a resuscitation room, and dedicated medical and nursing personnel. It is equipped with modern facilities to handle emergency cases. The A&E department is located on the ground floor of the hospital, on the west side, with a separate entrance for patients and direct access for ambulances.

What is the A&E Department?

The A&E Department is the hospital department that serves as the first point of contact for patients requiring healthcare services and handles all cases that cannot be managed by Primary Healthcare. Its goal is to provide immediate care, and diagnose patients with acute and urgent health conditions, covering a wide range of diseases, injuries, polytraumas, behavioural disorders, as well as their management until their transfer to units specialised in their respective health condition. In most cases, patients receive immediate resuscitation and personalised treatment until definitive in-hospital care. Furthermore, the A&E Department, as the first in line department, is responsible for managing incidents with mass casualties and pandemics.

The main goal of the A&E Department is to provide high-level healthcare with accurate diagnosis and treatment to those in need. Its primary objectives are:

  • Preservation of human life
  • Relief of pain
  • Diagnosis and induction of treatment
  • Triage and management of cases based on the severity of the condition

Who is being treated at A&E?

Patients in need of immediate and specialised treatment, such as vital organ support with mechanical respiratory assistance, cardiovascular monitoring and hemodynamic support. Patients with less severe health issues that can be promptly resolved without the need for hospitalisation.
