Diabetes type 1
Dr. Elena Sotiriou graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Patras, Greece. She completed her specialization in Paediatrics at a specialized Paediatric Hospital in Miami, United States, and is board-certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She subsequently continued her training in Paediatrics and Neonatology in the United Kingdom for an additional year. In 2015, she was awarded a scholarship by the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) and completed a three-month fellowship in Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University Hospital of Oxford. In August 2019, she returned to Oxford for further training in Paediatric Endocrinology.
In 2022, she obtained her Master’s degree (MSc) in Diabetes and Endocrinology from Queen Mary University of London. Her thesis focused on the assessment of quality of life among children with Type 1 Diabetes and their parents in Cyprus, in relation to the technological aids they use.
In 2023, she completed a six-month clinical fellowship as Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Endocrinology at the University College London Hospital (UCLH). She currently continues her academic career by conducting doctoral research at the University of Nicosia, focusing on the epidemiology of Type 1 Diabetes in Cyprus.
Since July 2017, Dr. Sotiriou has been serving as a Paediatrician at Limassol General Hospital, where she is also responsible for the operation and development of the Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic, which has been progressively strengthened and expanded over time.
